Whale Shark Project  Who we Are  Holbox  Photo Gallery  Book with us

Whale Sharks are the Worlds’ largest fish, growing up to 15 meters in Length.
Their migratory path brings them to the tropical waters near Isla Holbox, one of the few areas on the planet where they are frequent visitors.

Annually, whale sharks congregate here between the months of June and September when the ocean becomes rich with plankton. Despite their ominous appearance, they are docile creatures and do not attack humans, consuming only massive quantities of plankton.

The opportunity to swim and snorkel with the Whale Sharks is brought to you by Underwater Editions (UWE) in cooperation with the local community of Isla Holbox.
Started in 2002, UWE launched a long-term video and photo identification behavior research project of the whale sharks.
In 2003, with growing interest of tourists to visit the Whale Sharks, UWE became responsible for developing Eco-Tourism guidelines.
In 2004, CONANP and UWE participated in the education and training of all local guides and established rules and guidelines for interaction with the endangered species.
In 2005 we continued with the photo identification behavior research project.
And now, in 2006, we invite you to join us in this magical experience.

We will swim with the Whale Sharks in their own natural habitat while maintaining deep care and respect for this species. Thank you, we look forward to seeing you very soon, UWE.
